The mobile world has led to many positive developments, but has left people difficult to find. Is Fred working from home, in the conference room, sitting at a hot desk, in the gym, or at the local coffee shop? Mobility gives people freedom to move, but you need to know where to be found without endlessly letting people know. Making people carry RFID badges, or an extra transmitting device is just too much effort. A Bluetooth phone or PDA is something everyone has to carry anyway, and with its unique address it can be used for identification. FOAF is an emerging standard for personal data, being RDF, it can easily be extended, extending it for Bluetooth id allows us to integrate identity information with other personal details, freeing people from having to maintain separate data. Controlling access to the personal data is also provided by the FOAF development work allowing sharing of data whilst still controlling access between communities. This allows you to control or share the location information between your business colleagues and your family and friends. Virtual life has also led to becoming friends with people you won't recognise, Bluetooth can alert you to their presence as you pass them in an airport, or at a conference. It could also end the need for a red-rose or a rolled up copy of the Times, when meeting that blind date.
